At West Coast Safaris we believe in quality over quantity. Our immersive game drives are operated with 9 seater open game viewers (land rovers), to ensure an intimate experience. The Reserve is home to a wide variety of wildlife suited to the West Coast habitat. The land dictates our wildlife numbers and we encourage our guests to understand the West Coast habitat is not Kruger and wildlife sightings are less bountiful, but a genuine reflection of the wild west coast habitat. The Reserve boasts a wealth of coast fynbos & flowers the West Coast is famous for, which are an integral part of your safari experience.

West Coast Safari game drives take about 2.5 to 3 hours depending on what we come across. The experience starts and finishes at the Weskus Padstal ensuring easy access and safe parking. You can choose between a morning (start 9am) or afternoon (start 2pm) safari. For a more intimate experience or groups of 4 or more, we suggest booking the private vehicle so you can have the vehicle all to yourself.
The game reserve is home to Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Springbok, Eland, Buffalo, Red Hartebeest, Waterbuck, Steenbok, Ostrich, Porcupine and Caracal.
During the game drive, a bush coffee/tea stop is included offering a chance to get out of the vehicle, stretch your legs and have a look for tracks, unique plants or a better vantage point to wildlife.
We strive to provide immersive small group experiences and run our game drives in 9 seater open safari vehicles (Land Rover Defender), with professional guides.
Please note that children under 3 are welcome, but for the enjoyment of our other guests we can only allow these little ones on private vehicle bookings.
8:30 am / 1:30pm – Arrive at West Coast Padstal, have a coffee and a rusk, meet your guide for a short briefing and great your fellow adventurers. Last chance for a regular (non bush) toilet break.
9:00 am / 2:00 pm – Your guide will take you to your safari vehicle, and you will head out for a short drive on the road (10min), before entering the Game Reserve to start your safari.
10:15 am / 3:15 pm – Coffee/Tea break, a moment to stretch your legs and have a look around, before continuing on your safari.
11:15 am / 4:15 pm – Start heading back.
12:00 pm / 5:00 pm – Arrive back at Padstal.
Return times may vary a bit depending on your experience during the day, so please allow some extra time at the end in your planning.
Included in your game drives:
– The car and the guide (hard to do a game drive without them)
– Water
– Coffee, tea and rusks for when you have your break.
What to bring yourself:
– A sunhat & sunscreen
– Any drinks you would like to have other than the above inclusions, you can buy at the padstal
– Any specific snacks you may want to enjoy during your drive, please avoid any snacks with lots of wrappings to avoid litter.
